Internship Opportunities

The Boys & Girls Clubs is committed to assisting undergraduate and graduate-level students gain experience in their chosen fields. We have several internship opportunities in various areas of study for driven passionate individuals. Interns are selected from various schools each semester for internships in the following areas:

  • Marketing and Public Relations
  • Special Event & Volunteer Management
  • Human Resources
  • Sports, Fitness & Recreation
  • The Arts
  • Digital Media
  • Communications
  • Research & Development

Marketing and Public Relations

Interns will work with the Director of Development and/or Director of Volunteer Services to increase marketing exposure for Boys & Girls Clubs.

Other specific projects include implementing organizational marketing plan, assisting with the Positive Place For Kids Campaign , draft and distribute press releases, work with local media, write PSA’s for radio and television and plan events.

Twelve (12) or more hours per week are required.

Special Event and Volunteer Management

Interns will have a unique opportunity to gain direct experience in event planning of major Boys & Girls Clubs events. Interns will work closely with the Director of Volunteer Services and other Boys & Girls Clubs staff as they plan events and will assist with all aspects of planning, including: administrative support, outreach, event logistics, and limited financial processes. Interns will also work to increase and evaluate volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition strategies to effectively engage all volunteers and prospective volunteers.

This internship will select only two (2) interns per semester to work no less that 15 hours per week. Applications are accepted year-round.

Sports, Fitness and Recreation

Interns will work closely with Club Directors and staff to implement and improve sports, fitness and recreation programs and strategies.

This internship will also offer opportunities to create and promote programming through marketing and public relations opportunities, hands-on activities and other various tasks. Candidates should be sports-oriented and have a strong desire to help youth.

Twelve (12) or more hours per week are required.

Arts

Interns will have an unique opportunity to work directly with Club and Art Program Directors to assist in various facets of visual and performing arts opportunities throughout Boys & Girls Clubs. Candidate will help to implement more visual and performing arts opportunities, work with small groups to engage participants, and help in soliciting materials to continue to energize these programs.

Applicants’ majors or concentrations can range from performing arts to architectural studies.

Twelve (12) or more hours per week are required.

Digital Media

Interns will have a unique opportunity to work directly with Boys & Girls Clubs Administrative and Program Staff to assist in various facets of digital media and information technology. Candidates will have an opportunity to:

  • Focus on website updates and upgrades
  • Assess current technology and needs of organization
  • Work directly with Club staff to direct website
  • Work with youth in digital media programs and competitions

Applicant’s majors or concentrations should have strong focus on media, information technology, or other closely related fields.

Twelve (12) or more hours per week are required.

Communications

Interns will have an opportunity to work in a fast-pace nonprofit setting assisting the Director of Development and Marketing and/or the Director of Volunteer Services in creating and publishing various donor, volunteer and general audience publications for email and print. Interns will work on several tasks that may include:

  • 2010 Boys & Girls Clubs Annual Report
  • Quarterly Achievement Reports
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of America Honor Awards
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of America MAC Awards

Applicants’ majors or concentrations should have a strong focus in media, journalism or other closely related fields.

Twelve (12) or more hours per week are required.

Research and Development

Interns will have an opportunity to work directly with Club staff and Administration to research and help to create a comprehensive overview of various statistics of Boys & Girls Clubs programs and membership details.

Applicants’ majors or concentrations should have strong focus in sociology, statistics, or high interest in research.
