OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA Boys & Girls Club volunteer since 1989, Gary is the first program volunteer inducted into the Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame. An IBM employee for 36 years before recently retiring as a Client Satisfaction Executive, Gary was often recognized for his outstanding work. During his career he earned three “IBM Means Service” Awards for Client Service, three “Management Excellence Awards” and was twice recognized for “innovation” in developing new programs. For the past 25 years, Gary has guided the technology growth at the Boys & Girls Clubs from one desktop computer to technology labs in each of our seven Clubs. In addition to the challenge of “repairing” and on occasion replacing more than 70 desktop computers used by Club Members, Gary is a valuable resource for both program and administrative staff.

Prior to moving to Raleigh, Gary volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club of Pitt County and continued to assist that organization even after moving to Raleigh.  Over the years he has also provided tech support to Boys & Girls Clubs in Wilmington and Durham.

An active member of the Raleigh Elks Lodge 735, Gary has held a number of leadership positions including CEO, currently serving as a Trustee with responsibility for building upkeep, repairs and renovations.  Always conscious of our young people, Gary ensures that Boys & Girls Club Members have the opportunity to participate in the lodge’s communitywide events.  In 2012 Gary was named the Elks Lodge Officer of the Year.

In addition to building and refurbishing personal computers for the Boys & Girls Clubs, Gary enjoys repairing and renovating old homes, both his own and now the estate home that houses the Elks Lodge. Since his retirement Gary has taken up golf.

Gary and his wife Cheyrl have two sons, Robert and Michael, and four grandchildren,

Alyssa, Gavin, Evan and Camden.
